Happy New Year…

Many friends and colleagues have expressed how busy the holidays were and how exhausted they are as they return to work and life commitments this January 2025.

Capitalism and world often make us feel we have to come back full force, to be busy, productive, achieving goals. Perhaps for some it’s an exciting and energised fresh start, but for others it can feel overwhelming or too much too soon.

Out walking my loving and excitable companion, Hendricks the cocker spaniel, across the beautiful snowy rural landscapes of North Wales, I thought about how if we look to the cycles of nature we see that there’s much more gradual return and growth.

Humans are part of nature, and though most of us don’t have the privilege to not work, can we at least be kinder to ourselves and those around us if it takes a little longer to adapt and find headspace for communication, work tasks, and new ventures?

Through experience and observation this seems to be important for those who are neurodivergent, highly sensitive people, those who need to take extra care with health and mental health, those going through difficult moments in life, those with barriers, those in burn out!

So friends and colleagues who feel pressure to return swiftly to being busy and productive, remember the snow gradually melts, the sunlight takes time to return to the day, and bulbs are preparing to bloom in Spring.
